Election for Chair of Constitutional Committee Postponed

On August 16, 2009, the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly has postponed the election for the Chair of Constitutional Committee vacated by Madhav Nepal, scheduled to be held on August 17, 2009, for August 28, 2009 on the recommendation of the leaders of the three major political parties such as United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML).
Leaders of the three political parties in anticipation of reaching consensus on electing a common candidate have urged the Chair of the Constituent Assembly to postpone the election.
