Monitoring Progress In Enforcing Five-point Deal

Issue 31, July 31, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 28, 2011: the Parliamentary Monitoring Committee has held a meeting of the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML to ascertain the progress made by them in enforcing the five-point deal they have signed off on May 28, 2011. Following the five-point deal, they have to complete the basic parts of the peace process and the draft of constitution within the extended three-month period.

The number of days left as of today is 32. Even if they work days and nights, it will not be possible to complete the work what they have promised to do so. They have acknowledged it in the meeting held yesterday at the office of the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the prolonged dispute over the division of responsibilities has delayed in doing anything toward the completion of the peace process and the constitution writing, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Prachanda is optimistic of doing major things in the remaining one-month period of the life of the Constituent Assembly.

In the meeting with Prachanda after his return from medical trip abroad, NC President Sushil Koirala has even asked Prachanda whether the internal dispute in the UCPN-Maoist is another strategy of Prachanda to delay the completion of the peace process and the constitution writing.
