Nepal Government Standing Up To The Challenges Of Shutdown Callers

November 8, 2013: in view of the call of shutdown for a number of days by some political parties with the intention of interrupting the elections to a new CA, the Government of Nepal has decided to stand up to the challenges of the political parties; and the government has warned the political parties not to do anything violating the fundamental human rights, according to the morning news of the Radio Nepal today.

 

The Ministry of Home has said that the ministry will take strong actions against anybody breaking the law. The government has set up a five-member committee headed by the Home Minister to enforce law and order, and to make the smooth supply of essential goods, and to run the businesses of common folks as usual. The government is taking appropriate measures to keep all the highways open for regular transport.

 

The Government of Nepal has called on all the citizens to run their businesses without any fear from the callers of shutdowns. The government will immediately send the law enforcement officials to the area any undesirable incidents happen at any area. The government also has asked the people to immediately inform the law enforcement officials on the illegal actions happening at any area.

 

The government also has decided to provide any vehicle carrying the daily essential goods such cooking gas, vegetables, milk and so on with Rs 25,000 on the spot if the miscreants cause damages to the vehicles. The government will provide any public vehicle damaged by miscreants with 90% of the damages after the evaluation of the damages done. The government will foot the bills of treatment of the people injured.

 

In a statement issued in Kathmandu, the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has said that the news about the 10-day shutdown declared by the 33-party to interrupt elections to a new CA has drawn its serious attention, and warned of the one-day shutdown cost two billions rupees to Nepal; shutting down the country will not resolve the political problems; so, the FNCCI urges the callers of shutdowns to withdraw the call, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
