Swiss Government Provides Nepal with Rs 1.09 billion In Grant

December 13, 2013: the Government of Switzerland provides Nepal with the financial assistance of Swiss franc 10 Million (approximately Rs 1.09 billion) for the implementation of local governance and community development project-II (LGCDP II), according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

In Kathmandu on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Shanta Raj Subedi and Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Urs Herren signed off the bilateral agreement on behalf of their respective government to this end. Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation to the government of Switzerland for this assistance and its continued support for the socio-economic development of people in Nepal.

 

In a press statement released by the Ministry of Finance, it said that the project would be implemented by local offices of the sector ministries and the local bodies of Nepal under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development from July 16, 2013 to July 15 2017.

 

The total cost of the project is US Dollar 1362 million of which US Dollar 226 million will be provided by many development partners including the government of the Switzerland.

 

The objectives of the LGCDP-II are to improve local governance for effective service delivery, local development and citizen empowerment through improvement in the sectors such as local government, federal governance, fiscal decentralization, fiduciary risk reduction, and local governance among others. It covers all the 75 districts, 58 municipalities and 3915 VDCs.
