Nepal Graduating To Developing Country In Ten Years

Issue 27, July 7, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 6, 2013: the National Planning Commission (NPC) has prepared the 13th periodic plan: this year three-year plan with the goal of graduating Nepal to a developing country in 10 years. NPC submitted the plan to the National Development Council (NDC) for discussion and approval. According to the plan, Nepal will improve its current status of the least developing country to a developing country by 2023. If the history is any guide then Nepal has never achieved the goal set in the periodic plan.

Opening the two-day meeting of the NDC yesterday, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has said that even though the current government is entirely formed for holding the elections; it cannot ignore the development aspects of the country.

Chairman Regmi also has said that Nepal has made some successes in the poverty alleviation however, it has not been able to end the gap between the rich and the poor, as the economy of the country has not improved due to the crisis in power, absence of investment-friendly environment, availability of not sufficient resources, and not appropriate use of available resources, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
