Election Commission Initiates To Hold Election

Issue 29, July 15, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 9, 2012: the Election Commission (EC) has invited the leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and the youngest political party CPN-Maoist at its office to discuss the election issues with them tomorrow, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’ today quoting the state-run news agency RSS. The President on the recommendation of the prime minister has set the November 22, 2012 for holding the election to a new Constituent Assembly (CA).

The EC has been telling the government that the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 has no provision for holding an election to a CA ignoring the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on holding an election to a new CA. The ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal becomes the part of the constitution that the EC officials should know.
