China Passes Japan as World's Second-Largest Economy

Issue 34, August 22, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 16, 2010: the Japanese Cabinet Office has said today that China’s nominal gross domestic product for the second quarter has been $1.337 trillion surpassing Japan’s$1.288 trillion but Japanese GDP is still larger than China’s GDP.

This has happened in the past, too but Japan retook its second position but this time it's unlikely that Japan might retake its second position. The economic growth rate in China will certainly make China a larger economy than Japan in 2010

The pace of Japanese economic recovery slowed in the quarter through June on weak consumer and business spending, allowing fast-growing China to outrank Japan as the world's second-largest economy in the period, the government said Monday says the Japanese news agency Kyodo.
