Bus Accident in Kavre: More than 30 people died when an overloaded bus fall back to about 150 meter downhill after the engine suddenly stopped and the brake did not work while climbing uphill in Kavre on August 15, 2016.
Prime Minister Prachanda immediately ordered the Nepal Army to run for rescuing the injured passengers. The Nepal Army helicopters brought the seriously injured to the Kathmandu Trauma Center, and others to the Kavre Hospital.
Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi visited the Trauma Center, and assured the injured of the proper medical treatment, of the government footing the bills on the medical treatment.
Such accident-prone vehicles are usually old, and not suitable to the hilly roads of Nepal but the Transport Cartel has been making money on such vehicles putting the lives of passengers at risk. Passengers have no choice but to ride on such vehicles, as the Cartel control the number of buses to run on the different routes.
The Transport Cartel has been so strong that the transport workers forced the government to retract the decision on increasing the penalty on traffic rules violations. They withdrew the vehicles from the roads bringing the entire transport to halt for a day protesting the rise in the penalty amount.
Deputy Prime Minister Mahara Flew to China: DPM Krishna Bahadur Mahara left Kathmandu for Beijing on August 15, 2016 to arrange the visit of the Chinese top leaders to Nepal.
DPM Mahara has in his pockets the invitation of President of Nepal Bidhaya Bhandari to Chinese president Xi Jinping for visiting Nepal, and of Prime Minister Prachanda to Chinese Prime minister for visiting Nepal.
DPM Mahara might have a chance to meet with the top leaders if his destiny so decides. It is not sure yet whether the Chinese leaders would have time to see DPM Mahara in Beijing.
Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi to India: Deputy Prime Minster Bimalendra Nidhi was supposed to visit India at the same time but Indian leaders were busy with celebrating the 70th Independent Day on August 15, 2016.
DPM Nidhi was to arrange the visit of Indian President Pranav Mukherjee to Nepal, and the Nepalese President Bidhaya Bhandari to India.
Former Prime Minister KP Oli had cancelled the visit of President Bhandari to India believing that India had been in the business of toppling his government. PM Oli had taken Nepal head-on collision with India rather than improving the relations that had taken nosedive when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unwisely supported the then Prime Minister Sushil Koirala for the second term, and thereafter imposed a blockade on Nepal the disastrous results for Modi and for the Nepalese, too while PM Oli harvested the credit for everything not doing anything at all.
PM Pranchanda’s Cabinet: Prime minister Prachanda has expanded his cabinet appointing five ministers, and four ministers of State from his party: Maoist-Center on August 14, 2016. NC has not appointed its ministers and probably State ministers, too because of the number of senior leaders aspiring for the senior ministerial positions has been more than the available positions.
Groups and subgroups within the NC have been active to put high pressure on the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba for getting their favorites in the Prachanda’s Cabinet. For example, defeated in the party president election Ram Chandra Poudel has been seeking major positions in the cabinet whereas another defeated leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula also seeking his share in the cabinet positions.
Party President Deuba has to make one compromise after another to please his one-time rivals that should be the colleagues after the elections for the party president but it has not been happening rather behaving as if they are the presidents to consult with for every party decision.
Agreement on Setting Up A Commission on Investigation into the Death: The coalition of NC and the Maoist-Center had reached a three-point agreement with the Madheshi Front and the Federal Coalition to sort out the Madheshi issues, and bring the Madheshi leaders on board the NC and the Maoist-Center coalition on August 3, 2016.
In the agreement, they agreed on setting up a high level commission on investigation into the death of the protestors during the Madheshi movement, on declaring the dead people as martyrs, and on paying one million NPR to the families of each martyr.
At the meeting held at the Minister of Home, DPM Nidhi with the portfolio of home and the Madheshi coalition agreed on setting up a commission presided over by a retired justice. The Madheshi leaders submitted a list of 68 people dead during the Madheshi movement to be declared as the martyrs and pay the one million NPR to the families of each martyr.
