Legislative Session Starts On July 05

Issue 27, July 04, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 30, 2010: President Ram Baran Yadav has called the session of the legislature on the recommendation of the Prime Minister to start on July 05, 2010. The session is primarily for discussing polices and programs of the government and then the budget for the fiscal year 2010. The fiscal year 2009 ends on July 15, 2010. The Speaker thinks that the legislators will have not sufficient time to debate policies and programs and then the budget.

UCPN-Maoist leaders have objected the opening of the legislative session on July 05 without consulting the largest part in the legislature. In doing so, they believe that the government has deliberately sought the direct confrontation with the UCPN-Maoist leaders.

The spokesperson for the UCPN-Maoist has said that the winter session of the legislature had also ended without informing the main opposition party, so blamed the ruling parties for seeking direct confrontation with the opposition.

On June 29, 2010, thirteen small parties got together and debated the ongoing political deadlock and urged the major three political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML to work on the consensus politics before the budget session.
