Issue 22, June 2, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 28, 2013: hearing on the case filed by advocate Subash Acharya on March 17 demanding that the court scrap the “Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance’ and subsequent appointment of the Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi to the Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers, a single bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal of the Supreme Court of Nepal issued show cause notices to the offices of the president, and prime minister, and of the four political parties, according to the local news.

Advocate Acharya had filed the petition on March 17, arguing that issuing the “Removal of Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance”, the president had abused his power relating to such an exercise, and that this had affected the basic structure of the Interim Constitution, according to the news posted on myrepublica.com.

The court had postponed the hearing on the case several times in the past citing 'technical reasons', according to nepalnews.com.
