Stopping Export Of Crushed Stones

Issue 02, January 10, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

January 5, 2010: acting on the information provided by the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation on the quantity of crushed stones exported to India from Rupandehi, Morang, Bara, Makawanpur, Kapilwastu and Nawalparasi districts of Nepal, the Legislative Committee on Natural Resources has instructed the government to stop operating the crushers at the Chure Hills and stop exporting crushed stones from there, as extracting the stones from the fragile Chure hills would adversely affect the ecology of the area.

The Legislative Committee meeting presided over by Chairperson Shanta Chaudhry has instructed the Forest and Soil Conservation, Local Development, Industry, Finance, Environment and Home Ministries to immediately stop the operation of crushers and export of crushed stones from various parts of the Chure Hills.

However, one of the members of the Legislative Committee Abhishekh Pratap Shah belonging to Madheshi People’s Rights Forum disagreed with the decision of the committee and wrote a note of dissent on it.
