By KTM Metro Reporter

December 31, 2013: The fertile lands in various areas of the Myagdi district are left unplowed after the rural youths opted for foreign employments, and went to the Middle East and South East Asian countries. Over 15 per cent lands cultivated for corn, wheat, millet and barley left barren for lack of workers, as youths are attracted and even are compelled to go abroad for employment said the District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhaaptraonline.com.’

Some locals have started off vegetable and fruit farming leaving aside the traditional farming; the DADO also has encouraged the locals for commercial vegetable and fruit farming these days, said locals.

According to the National Census-2068 BS (2011), of the 113,000 population of the Myagdi district, some 15,000 youths left the district for employment.

Another district called Kapilvastu has sent its 28,683 youths to foreign employments. Of them, 2,022 youths are from a single village called the Motipur VDC, the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’ says, this number is five times of other VDCs sending youths to foreign employments. Each VDC has sent on an average 372 youths for overseas employments.
