President Goes With Constituent Assembly

Issue 52, December 27, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 22, 2009, the government-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ has reported that one of Deputy Chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has led the peaceful protest at New Baneswore in Kathmandu on Monday, December 21 after the violence erupted on Sunday at the same place; speaking at the peaceful rally, Dr. Bhatttarai has said that the political parties in the government have been intending to declare the Presidential rule after the expiry of the Constituent Assembly in May 2010 but with the expiry of the Constituent Assembly, the position of the President also expires, so the President also goes with it, as the Constituent Assembly has elected the President, thus all the government systems come to an end, then a new constitution will be declared on the streets.

Dr. Bhattarai has also said that the government has not addressed the demands of the Maoists following the foreign advice; if the legislators are allowed to debate the case of the President’s undemocratic act at the legislature, the UCPN-Maoist will immediately stop the protest movement.
