Timely Promulgation of Constitution

Issue 11, March 14, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

March 12, 2010: Speaking at the religious function held at Gajurmukhi in Ilam, Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subash Nemwang has said that the Constitution Assembly would not be able to promulgate a new constitution if the current political deadlock continues according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 12, 2010.

As the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Mr. Nemwang needs to quit his office if he could not manage the promulgation of a new constitution on time. Concerning the current political deadlock, Mr. Nemwang is one of the responsible persons for it, as he refused to allow the debate over the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial president on directly writing a letter to the then army chief at the legislature. Following the democratic principles and values, if Mr. Nemwang had allowed debate over the undemocratic action of the president, the political course would have been the democratic one than the current deadlock. So, Mr. Nemwang needs to resign from the current position if he has a little bit of sense of responsibility for his undemocratic action.
