Some Economic Indicators Concerning Nepal

September 2, 2012: number of tourist arrivals coming to Nepal by air has increased by 2.5 percent to 44,571 in August 2012 in comparison to the number of tourist arrival in the same month last year 2011.

Malaysia Airlines has started its direct flights to Kathmandu from Kuala Lumpur starting on Saturday, September 1, 2012. The airlines will operate three flights: one each on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday a week offering 960 seats in both directions each week. This will contribute to increase the number of tourists coming to Nepal.

Nepal has the overall Balance of Payment (BoP): the highest ever surplus of Rs. 127.70 billion in the FY 2011 compared to the Rs. 2.18 billion in the FY 2010. The substantial growth of remittances and the improvement in the service account were the factors contributing to the surplus in the current account, according to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB): the Central Bank of Nepal.
