Denouncing The Shutdown Of Nepal

Issue 10, March 10, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 7, 2013: leaders of the Federal Republican Front made up of five political parties including the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya have boasted about the success of the shutdown of Nepal yesterday, and they claimed that the Nepalese people have supported their call for shutting down their business. That is the story of the so-called leaders that have held the entire 30 million Nepalis hostage for protesting against the formation of a new government under the Chief Justice, and against the foreign interference in forming a new government, and demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, and the formation of a new government made up of all forward looking political parties. However, these so-called leaders have ignored the condemnation of shutting down by the representatives of all civil society associations.

Millions of students have to stay home because of the shutdown of Nepal, they have lost the lessons of the day, said the former coordinator of Association for Private Educational Institutions Basanta Marahatta, so shutdown could not justified at any pretense, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Chairman of Federation of Nepalese Journalists Shiva Gaunle said, “nobody should make the country and the people hostage for meeting their demand; they should not make the shutdown of the country as a tool to meet their demands, as shutdown of the country caused the imbalance of supplies and destroys the economy.”

Deputy Chairman of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry Pradeep Jung Pandey said, “shutdown of the country meets the demands of the limited people but the entire population suffers; it has been an obstacle to the economic development; so, the culture of shutting down should be ended forever to build a civilized society.”

General Secretary of Nepal Bar Association Sunil Pokharel suggested the leaders to follow an alternative to the shutdown of the country to protest or to meet their demands. He also said, “the shutdown called for the sake of the benefits of the people has violated the rights of the entire population to work and earn.”

Chairman of Nepal Medical Association Dr Anjani Jha said, “shutting down a country has not resolved any problems so far; such shutdowns have mired the reputation of Nepal in the world arena; so, shutdowns have not benefited rather harassed the people.” (These news items are extracted from the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today)
