Leaders Commit To End Political Deadlock

Issue 41, October 11, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On October 4, 2009, at the tea party held by the Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist at the party office, Balkhu in Kathmandu, Chairman of United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) Prachanda, President of Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala and Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) have jointly committed to end the current political deadlock forming a high-level political mechanism.

How these leaders would end the current political deadlock remains to be seen. We have seen that the talks among the representatives of the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have failed, as they have not stepped back from their political stand.

On October 4, 2009, the UCPN-Maoist’s standing committee meeting has decided to launch a strong peaceful movement if the political leaders fail in addressing the issue of the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial President.

Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that no consensus politics and co-working will be possible without correcting the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial President.

The NC leaders have been in no mood to compromise on their stand on not taking up the issue of the unconstitutional move of the ceremonial President. They have been saying that the President’s move is absolutely constitutional, and no need of discussing this matter anymore.
