NC Stuck To Its Position On Not Consensus Politics

October 04, 2010: Newly elected President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala has repeated his party’s position on not pulling its candidate out of the Prime Ministerial elections despite its defeat even in the ninth round of elections. Koirala has rather urged the UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML legislators to support his party’s candidate in the tenth round of the election, and otherwise form a government without his party clearly indicating his party is not for the consensus politics. "The consensus politics came to an end with the amendment to the interim constitution and we are constitutionally following the majority system," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of October 4, 2010 writes quoting Koirala.

Some political leaders have said that the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML has agreed on forming a majority government after the NC pulling its candidate out of the Prime Ministerial race. However, most of the political leaders have been saying that there is no alternative to the consensus politics.

Speaking at a press conference held by Revolutionary Journalists Association in Hetauda on Sunday, October 03, 2010, Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that national consensus is the only alternative at the moment to form a new government until a new constitution is promulgated; so the major three political parties and Madheshi parties must work together to complete the peace process and the constitution making in time, writes ‘The Rising Nepal’ of October 04, 2010.

Speaking at his party's advisory council meeting at the central office, Balkhu today, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhananath Khanal has urged the NC leaders not to doubt the recent agreement UCPN-Maoist and his party CPN-UML has reached; he has also said that the agreement is on breaking the current political deadlock; his counterpart signatory Prachanda and he have anticipated that the NC leaders will take it positively according to the nepalnews.com.

Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar airport today, Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the current political deadlock will be broken soon, as efforts on building a consensus on power sharing have made progress, nepalnews.com reports.

Speaking at a press conference held by his Party in Kalaiya on Sunday, October 03, 2010, Central Secretary of Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party and CA member Sunil Prajapati has said that the legislature has not been able to elect a new Prime Minister due to the foreign interference in the Nepalese politics, and blamed the CPN-UML leaders for forcing the government out of the office, THT Online reports.
