Progress In Drafting A Common Motion

Issue 40, October 4, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter In Kathmandu

By the end of the Friday, October 2, 2009, the Nepali Congress (NC), and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPM-UML) needed to complete the draft of a common motion to be registered at the legislature but they have come up with a sketch of it to sound the opinions of the Maoists. So, the meeting of the leaders of three major parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML has been postponed for the morning of Saturday, October 3, 2009.

The Maoist leaders have been insisting on mentioning the unconstitutional move of the President but the NC leaders have been deadly against it. Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ has said that the Maoists would not accept a common motion without mentioning the unconstitutional move of the President whereas the leader of NC Arjun Narshing KC has said that the NC would not accept to mention anything about the President in a common motion.

The meeting of the Standing Committee of CPN-Maoist held on October 2, 2009 has even decided that the constitutional move of the President and the people’s suzerainty should be mentioned in a common motion.
