Statement of Home Minister And Maoists’ Reactions
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On December 6, 2009, Home Minister Bhim Rawal held a press conference in Kathmandu and accused the Maoists of luring the people in far western Nepal to the forest land in the Kailali district giving them the false assurance of the Maoists distributing the fallow land to the landless people; so thousands of people converged there; the local administration has attempted to eject them peacefully, however, the squatters armed with agricultural tools, spears and other weapons assaulted on the police and in return the police fired on them; the Maoists are accountable to this incident; this incident has negative impact on the peace process and the writing of a new constitution; and he is not going to quit his job.
Speaking to the field reporter of the live broadcast of the ABC TV at Tundikhel in Kathmandu, YCL In-charge of Kathmandu ‘Sagar’ has strongly reacted to the statement of the Home Minister, and has said that the Home Minister ordering to kill the innocent people is accountable to this incident not the Maoists; the Maoists have not lured anybody; the landless people are not the Maoists as accused by the Home Minister they could be of any political party but the Maoists have empathized them; he has accused the Home Minister of using the police and the army to repress the innocent and poor people.
Reporting from the Kailali district, a reporter has said that the police have overnight set up a makeshift police outpost with 70 armed police at the area from where the police have forcibly ejected the landless people; the landless people are also determined to return to the place where they have been living; so confrontation between the landless people and the police is anticipated in the coming days if not hours. The police have burned down more than 2,500 sheds on Friday, December 4, 2009.
