Unrest In Palpa After The Death Of A Woman

Issue 04, January 27, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

January 20, 2013: the district administration has imposed a curfew in the Rampur Bazaar in the Palpa district today after the local people rose up against what they called the shoddy investigation into the death of a woman, according to the reporter of ‘The Himalayan Times’ today.

More than six thousand protesters held a protest rally at the police office after the body of Sonu Shretha (28) of Rampur VDC-5, had been missing since more than a month found stuffed in a sack and dumped in the Kaligandaki River at Parewaghat, Rampur VDC in the district yesterday, according to the reporter of ‘The Himalayan Times’.

Allegedly the police have not taken the death of the woman seriously and have not held investigation into it seriously. Her husband has confessed torturing her mentally but has not confessed killing her. The people rose up against the police indicating that Nepalis are no more willing to accept any abuse of power. This is a good message to the politicians that Nepalis would not keep quiet if they do something wrong to the people.
