Increase In Retirement Pay To Gurkhas

March 30, 2011: Wrapping up a visit to Nepal today, British Minister for Defense Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, Andrew Robathan has announced a 9.6 percent increase in retirement pay for Gurkha soldiers served in the British Army and their dependents; in addition, the monetary allowance for those awarded gallantry medals also increased significantly; all payments will be backdated to 2008 according to the news posted on Allheadlinenews.com.

Nepalese Gurkha veterans have been fighting legal battles in British courts for years for appropriate pensions comparing to their British counterparts and permission to settle in Britain.

Nepalese Gurkhas have been serving in the British army since the end of the Nepal- British India war. Since then Nepalese Gurkhas have been fighting for the British. As recently as a few days ago, a Nepalese Gurkha has earned the second highest award for fighting alone against more than attacking 15 Talibans and repulsing them successfully in Afghanistan.
