Nepal Signatory To UN Convention Against Corruption
By KTM Metro Reporter
February 24, 2011: Nepal has become the signatory to the UN Convention Against Corruption after the Nepalese parliament has endorsed the resolution seeking the approval of the parliament for Nepal being the signatory to the UN Convention Against Corruption. ‘The Himalayan Times’ quoting the state-run news agency RSS has reported. Minister without Portfolio Bishnu Poudel submitted the resolution to the Parliament for endorsement.
Minister Poudel has said that the Government of Nepal had signed off on the UN Convention Against Corruption on December 10, 2003, and the ratification of this Convention will help the authorities concerned to take strong actions against corrupt officials.
Maybe, following the UN Convention Against Corruption, the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) can start investigating the corruption cases involving former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and his ministers. They have disregarded the rule of law and followed the cabinet decisions on many things the then government headed by Madhav Nepal had done.
