Commercializing Nepalese Agriculture, And Cooperatives

May 10, 2013: speaking at the discussion held by the Sugarcane Farming Research Program to mark the 22nd year of the establishment of Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NHRC) on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, agriculture scientists and technicians have put emphasis on the need for making Nepali farmers competitive and commercial in line with the changed technology at the international level, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

 

At the event, speakers pointed out the need for giving importance to the pro-poor service delivery through multiple coordination and collaboration under the agriculture systems.

 

Coordinator of the Sugarcane Farming Research Program of Jitpur, Kailash Prasad Bhuder said that the agriculture sector should be transformed into a more attractive enterprise of rural area. He called for agriculture scientists and technicians to take up special initiative to turn the traditional agriculture to commercial, and strengthen capacity for commercial agriculture.

 

The Department of Cooperatives has prepared an action plan for the reformation, consolidation, and good governance in the cooperatives sector. Around five million people have been involved in around 26,000 cooperative organizations in the country. The Cooperatives Department has a network in as many as 38 districts currently and that it has a target of extending its offices in more than 20 districts in the days ahead. The action plan encourages investing in the agricultural, tourism and water resources, among other sectors of priority, according to ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
