High-level Political Mechanism

Issue 02, January 10, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 6, 2010, top leaders of the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML along with their subordinates have met at the residence of NC President Girija Prasad Koirala at Maharajgunj in Kathmandu to debate the formation of a high-level mechanism. They have agreed to set up a high-level mechanism initially of the three major parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML and then include the representatives of the Madheshi political parties on it. They agreed to sit together on Friday, January 8, 2010 to give it a final shape. However, they skipped the six-point agenda to discuss.

Returning from the visit to the far western Nepal, flunky Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has gone straight to the residence of Girija Praad Koirala from the airport to inquire about the formation of a high-level political mechanism on January 6, 2010. After the formation of a high-level political mechanism, Mr. Madhav Nepal is sure to fall from power. So, he is concerned with it very much.

It has been more than a month since the leaders of the three major parties have been talking about the setting up of a high-level political mechanism. Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala has once publicly charged the senior leaders of her party of not willing to setting up a high-level political mechanism. After the failure of setting up a high-level political mechanism in the past, some political analysts have said that Girija Prasad Koirala has been political vegetable in his party but remains to be seen whether it is true or not.

At the same time, in view of the health status of NC President Girija Prasad Koirala, senior leader of NC and Former Prime Minister Sheer Bahadur Deuba has claimed that after Girija Prasad Koirala he is the claimant for the president of the NC. Deuba is a three term Prime Minister. The regime of the despotic Shah ruler had imprisoned him for the corruption case of misappropriating the project money of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
