Five-point Agreement With Federal Social Party

Issue 36, September 8, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 7, 2013: on behalf of the four-party political mechanism, Ram Chandra Poudel, and on behalf of the Federal Social Party Ashok Rai have signed off the five-point agreement in Kathmandu yesterday Monday, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra of today. Coordinator of the four-party political mechanism Sushil Koirala was supposed to sign off the agreement but Mr. Koirala was out of the Kathmandu Valley.

Following the agreement, they will request the president to keep the 601 members for a new constituent assembly to be elected in November, to initiate a process for a legal provision for making Nepalis living foreign countries eligible for voting in the elections, and the Federal Social Party taking back all protest programs, and agreeing on participating in the elections.

The only front left to opposing the elections is the 33-party front led by the CPN-Maoist. However, leaders of CPN-Maoist have not shown any interest in taking part in the elections rather have been preparing for disrupting the elections.

The Election Commission has already publicly said that it cannot wait the CPN-Maoist for registering it at the Election Commission for the purpose of elections; even making special offer to the CPN-Maoist for registration goes against the rules.
