Ethnic and Madheshi Nepalis Not Satisfied
Leaders of ethnic and Madheshi Nepalis are not satisfied with the 23-point deal the leaders of the seven parties reached on holding the election for a constituent assembly without meeting their demand for a fully proportional election system and autonomous rule.
Leader of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Dr Om Gurung accused the leaders of the seven parties of giving priority to their personal and party interest rather than to the interest of the ethnic communities and majority of the Nepalese people according to the Kantipur Report posted on Ekantipur.com on January 02, 2008. Dr. Gurung further stated that NEFIN would continue to fight for a fully proportional electoral system for the election for a Constituent Assembly.
Similarly, leaders of the Madhesh region charged the government with not being serious to their demand for a full proportional electoral system and autonomous rule consequently not creating an environment conducive to the election for a Constituent Assembly. They would continue to stage a protest against the government’s apathy toward their demand.
