Prime Minister Calls off Foreign Visit

Issue 03, January 18, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Thursday, January 15, speaking to reporters Prime Minister Prachanda told them that he cancelled his visit to Norway and Finland scheduled for a week starting on January 17 because of the recent political development in the country and other problems of power shortage and so on. Probably, the Prime Minister called off his visit to take damage-control measures against the damage he had done speaking on grabbing the state power repeatedly on Jan 13 and 14.

On January 15, 2009, General Secretary of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal strongly came out against the statement of Prime Minister Prachanda: ‘if anybody dared to topple the current government the next day Nepalese people would revolt and grabbed the power’ stated at the mass rally held at the open theater in Kathmandu to announce the unification of two communist parties on January 13, 2009. Speaking at the inauguration of the Maghe Festival of the Tharu ethic community in Bardiya, Western Nepal on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, the Prime Minister repeated this statement. General Secretary Khanal even went on saying that the Maoists failed in leading the government and then it was the turn of the CPN-UML to lead the government. The statement of the Prime Minister also filled the NC leaders with alarm.
