Supreme Court Of Nepal Against Issuing Stay Order

Issue 03, January 16, 2011

BY KTM Metro Reporter

January 14, 2011: the division bench of justices Khil Raj Regmi and Prakash Wasti of the Supreme Court of Nepal has turned down the appeal of executive chairman of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) Sugat Ratna Kansakar and his five co-workers to stop the hearings on the corruption case filed by the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against them at the Special Court, myrepublica.com and ‘THT Online’ write.

The ruling of the division bench of the Supreme Court of Nepal has paved the way for the Special Court for the hearing on the corruption case filed by the CIAA. On December 25, 2010, the CIAA has filed a corruption case against Kansakar and his five coworkers at the Special Court charging them with paying Rs 57.3 million as non-refundable advance to the French Airbus Company not following the Public Procurement Act. Then the NAC officials have filed a counter case against the CIAA at the Supreme Court of Nepal stating the CIAA has no such authority to file a case against them.

A number of advocates pleading at the Supreme Court of Nepal for the NAC officials has shown that these officials must have spent a huge sum of money on hiring such a large number of lawyers that also expensive ones. For logically thinking people, it proves that they must have amassed huge money at the cost of the NAC.
