Disenfranchising Corrupt People, Rapists And Murderers

Issue 53, December 30, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 25, 2012: according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today, the Election Commission (EC) has prepared a draft bill on amending the laws on political parties with the objective of making the political parties responsible for and accountable to their works and activities.

According to the news, the draft bill is quite impressive and encompasses the number of things that will discipline the most indiscipline political leaders in Nepal. If the parliament or in absence of it whether the president will issue decree on it remains to be seen.

The conspicuously missing items in the proposed draft bill are the provisions in the laws for disenfranchising the criminals such as corrupt politicians, rapists and murderers, and for making them not eligible for holding elected offices. Such criminals are not better than any animals; so they should not have any rights to participate in the decent human activities. The EC needs to include the provision in the draft for disenfranchising these criminals and making them not eligible for being candidates for any public offices.
