Latest Political Development In Nepal

December 25, 2013: NC, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist, and five Madhesi political parties reached a four-point agreement yesterday. The four points are 1) the parliament will set up a parliamentary committee on probing into the flaws in the elections, 2) a committee of top leaders of major political parties will be formed to help in completing the peace process, and in drafting a new constitution, 3) draft a new constitution within six months, and promulgate it within a year following the 12-point understanding, Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, 4) set up a commission on disappeared people, and on truth and reconciliation as soon as possible.

 

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon telephoned Chairman Khilraj Regmi and congratulated him on holding the election impartially, and also thanked the voters for participation in the elections. UN Secretary General Ban said that the elections ensured peace and prosperity of the Nepalis. Chairman Regmi thanked the UN for providing Nepal with the assistance in the peace process and in the elections, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
