Transporters’ Strike, Petroleum dealers’ Strike and Students’ strike

Demanding the rise in public transport fares to match with the rise in the prices of petroleum products, Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs has continued the public transport strike bringing the nation to a standstill from Friday, June 20, 2008. Representatives of the Federation and the government officials have been meeting to set the fares agreeable to all parties concerned. However, they reached an agreement on Tuesday, June 24, 2008.
Association of Petroleum Dealers has locked all the petroleum depots belonging to the state-owned company Nepal Oil Corporation in Kathmandu demanding an adequate supply of petroleum products.
The students have called off the strike after the government agreed to meet their demand for special concessions on the public transport fares.
