Finally Mr. Jha Becomes Disciplined

Issue 07, February 14, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On February 7, 2010, Paramananda Jha has taken the oath of office of Vice-president in Nepali and Maithili the second time given in Nepali by President Ram Baran Yadav after the Supreme Court of Nepal annulled his oath of office in Hindi he took despite the President gave the oath of office in Nepali at that time, too. In addition, wearing the Nepalese official uniform during the oath taking ceremony, Mr. Jha has shown that he has corrected the past mistake.

However, it might be called a victory of all Nepalis speaking different languages as anybody elected to the highest public positions such as President and Vice-president could take the oath of office in his/her mother tongue and Nepali from now on.

The legislature has made the seventh amendment to the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 on January 28, 2010 paving the way for all elected Nepalese officials including the president and vice-president to take oath in their mother tongues and Nepali.

Mr. Jha has remained suspended for about six months after the Supreme Court ordered him to take the oath of office of Vice-president in Nepali within a week or face suspension from the position; he chose the suspension to taking the oath of office in Nepali.
