Nobody Can Stop The Elections

July 21, 2013: speaking at an event in Kathmandu yesterday, Minister for Information and Communication Madhav Prasad Poudel said that nobody could stop the elections to a new Constituent Assembly scheduled for November 19, 2013; the country would face a disaster if elections were not held, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

The Election commission has published the 104-point elections code. It will come to effect on July 22, 2013. It is applicable to the government, state institutions, political parties and the individuals. Anybody violating the code could be fined for up to Rs 100,000, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Speaking at an event held by the NC Lamjung-1 in Kathmandu yesterday, president of NC Sushil Koirala said that elections to the second Constituent Assembly must be held on November 19 to end political crisis; as the delay in the election could pose a threat to the stability of the country, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’. The president of NC said that China, India, European Union and the international community had been pressing for holding elections.

 

Home Minister also the coordinator of the government talks team Madhav Ghimire on Friday sent a formal letter to the chairman of CPN-Maoist inviting him to talks. "You are well aware that the present government was formed to accomplish the responsibility of holding the elections to the Constituent Assembly among others and all efforts of the government are centered on holding the election in a free, fair and credible environment," Ghimire said in his letter. Recalling the government's calls for dialogues with different political forces, Ghimire admitted that no formal talk between the government and the CPN-Maoist and the front under it was held, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

Speaking at the concluding session of the two-day party workers' training the Nepali Congress Madhyapur Thimi Municipal Committee held to mark the 32nd Memorial Day of BP Koirala in Thimi yesterday, General Secretary of NC Prakashman Singh said that UCPN-Maoist was hatching a conspiracy to foil the November 19 Constituent Assembly elections. The Congress will stand against every attempt to obstruct the election process, Singh said, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

In a statement released yesterday, the 33 parties including CPN-Maoist opposing the Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for November 19 said that the election would weaken democracy and national sovereignty; the parties urged all friendly countries to stop extending financial and moral assistance to the elections, according to Nepalnews.com.
