Issue 25, June 20, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 16, 2010: the Department of Education has sent Rs 800 million rupees to the districts for purchasing textbooks for the five million students of 1-8 grades but the data show that only two millions sets of textbooks are purchased thus not having the records of three millions sets to be purchased according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of June 15, 2010. Central Committee on Monitoring of Textbook Distribution has stated that the semi-state-run Sajha publication has sold 1.7 million sets of textbooks whereas the private companies have sold only 200,000 sets in eastern and western regions. The estimated corruption in distribution of textbook goes as high as 500 million rupees. Nepalis cannot anticipate anything more than corruption in every government sector from the Madhav government.
