CPN-Maoist Cadres Charged With Arson

September 18, 2013: Two CPN-Maoist cadres responsible for setting fire on a bus with the passengers were produced at the Kavre District Court yesterday and remanded them to a five- day judicial custody for further investigation into the case, according to the nepalnews.com.
The court ruled for a judicial custody after hearing on the criminal charge sheet filed by the Kavre District Police at the Kavre district court. The police have filed a criminal charge of committing the 'attempted homicide and arson'.
The arrested CPN-Maoist cadres have been identified as Raman Pariyar and Arjun Thapa. Pariyar is the vice-chairman of the National Youth Volunteer Nepal in the area no. 4 of the Kavre district, and Thapa is the chairman of the National Youth Volunteer Nepal in the Ugratara Janagal VDC of the same district.
The police arrested Pariyar and Thapa on Monday for allegedly setting fire on a passenger bus in Dhulikhel of Kavre during the shutdown called by their party: CPN-Maoist in the district on September 15.
In a statement, CPN-Maoist has denied the involvement of its cadres in the heinous crime. "Our cadres did not burn the bus. There might be some infiltration during the bandh," said the statement, according to the nepalnews.com.
