Nepal Deploys Forces At Mount Everest
BY KTM Metro Reporter
Mount Everest has been the fascinating place for the mountain climbers and the record setters of climbing the highest peak in the world. However, recently it has also been the battleground. Now, the Government of Nepal again under the pressure of the Chinese Government has deployed the high altitude military and police forces at about 16,000 ft to prevent any pro-free Tibet rally at the time of the Olympic torch Relay passing through this area in May 2008. However, this might be blessing in disguise, as the same forces could be useful in the future in case of the probable threat from the north. The Government of Nepal would have never created such high altitude military and police forces if this event has not demanded. The Government of Nepal has authorized the forces to use lethal weapons if necessary to stop anybody climbing above 16,000 ft on the Nepalese side from May 01 to 10, 2008.
The administrators of the People’s Republic of China have been putting pressure on the Government of Nepal to stop the Tibetan exiles in Nepal from staging protest rallies at the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Government of Nepal under the international pressure and because of its democratic nature cannot suppress the Tibetan exiles but has been successfully preventing them from reaching the Chinese embassy.
