Madheshi Leaders Concern About Enforcement Of Four-point Deal

Issue 51, December 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 13, 2011: leaders of UDMF: alliance of Madheshi political parties formed to fight for the common cause of Madheshi have been concerned with the non-enforcement of the four-point deal they have reached with the UCPN-Maoist before the formation of the current coalition government.

Madheshi leaders want the government initiate the recruitment of Madheshis to the Nepal army as committed in the four-point deal. Madheshi leaders hold the portfolios of the most of the important ministries. However, they could not enforce the four-point deal. Ministers are not dummies. If the prime minister blocks them from recruiting soldiers from the Madheshi community they need to say so publicly.

Madheshi leaders have been demanding the government to recruit at least 10,000 soldiers from the Madheshi community. But Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had said that it was their demand means the government must have a different plan than the demand of the Madheshi leaders for recruiting soldiers from the Madheshi community.

Madheshi leaders have been serious about their demand for recruiting soldiers from their community. So, they held a meeting with the Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister Narayankaji Shrestha.

Madheshi leaders have said that Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has assured them of the government enforcing the four-point deal according to the news published in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today. Madheshi leaders have even threatened to pull out of the coalition with the UCPN-Maoist, if the government fails to enforce the four-point deal.
