Loss Caused By Bird Flu To Poultry Farmers In Bhaktapur

August 17, 2013: speaking at an interaction event held in Bhaktapur, one of the founder members of the Poultry Farmers’ Association in Bhaktapur has said that the poultry farmers have lost Rs 7 billion due to the bird flu appeared in the poultry farms in Bhaktapur, according to the Radio Nepal news of 7:00 am today morning.

 

Most of the poultry farmers have lost their livelihood in Bhaktapur: one of the major poultry farming area in Nepal. Nepal has the poultry business worth Rs 80 billion.

 

The government of Nepal has declared the Bhakapur area has the bird flu epidemic area, and has ordered to destroy all the poultry and the poultry related materials including the feeds there. The Bhaktapur area has been sealed off for the business of poultry for some time until the bird flu is controlled.

 

On the one hand restaurants have suffered from the shortage of chicken in the market on the other hand, most of the residents of Kathmandu have refrained from eating chicken sending the price of chicken spiraling down. The government had shut down the chicken stores for a week in view of controlling the bid flu.
