Maoists’ Ultimatum to The Leaders

By Kathmandu Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On October 23, 2009, leaders of the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) have extended the time of more than a week to the leaders of the NC and the CPN-UML for the consensus politics before launching a movement for restoring the people’s suzerainty. The Maoists have been saying that the President’s move on directly writing a letter to the Chief of Army Staff goes against the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 and is undemocratic whereas the leaders of NC and CPN-UML have been telling that the President’s move is democratic and constitutional. The Maoists want to discuss it at the legislature whereas the NC and CPN-UML leaders have been deadly against it.

Spokesperson for the UCPN-Maoist Dinanath Sharma has said that the standing committee of the UCPN-Maoist has decided to launch a movement if the leaders of the ruling parties could not reach the consensus politics with the Maoists.
