Forbidding Import Of Inverter/Home UPS

Issue 07, February 14, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Ministry of Commerce And Supplies has published a very important notice titled ‘Forbidding Import of inverter/Home UPS’ in the state-run newspaper called ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 11, 2010. The notice states that the Ministry of Energy has requested the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies for stopping the import of inverter/Home UPS in view of the rise in demand for power beyond the capacity of supplying due to the use of inverter/home UPS.

Only the government headed by the man defeated in two constituencies and not accountable to the people could make such an anti-people decision. This government must be forbidding import of inverter/home UPS only to increase the import of these appliances through a parallel market bypassing the custom offices. Possibly, these concerned government officials must have a secret deal with the businesspersons engaged in a parallel market to take the advantage of short supply of power and then making the short supply of inverter/home UPS so that they can charge high prices for inverter/home UPS in a parallel market. This government has done the same thing concerning the supply of sugar, lintels and rice for making money.
