Shortage of Petroleum Products In Nepal

April 2014

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 16, 2014: the lines of motor vehicles and motorbikes had been quite long to fill up their tanks. One of the motorbike owners complained that he stood on the line for two hours before getting five liters of petrol.

The State-run Nepal Oil Corporation said that the Indian-state-owned Indian Oil Corporation stopped the supply of petroleum products in a full scale. The Indian company did so as the Nepalese company failed paying off the arrears of Rs 5 billion.

This was not a new phenomenon. When Girija Prasad Koirala became a prime minister after the people’s movement in 2006, he caused the shortage of petroleum products for two years of his reign. As soon as a next man came to power, the shortage of petroleum was ended.

Mr. Sushil Koirala was repeating the story of making the shortage of petroleum products on the same pretext as Girija Prasad Koirala made in the past. Girija Prasad Koirala made the shortage of petroleum products for making money for his family and the party. If Sushil Koirala was not doing the same thing he should immediately eased the shortage of petroleum products.
