Opinions of Various Leaders About HLPM
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
January 13, 2010: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has said that the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) will pave the way for resolving the current political deadlock and writing a new constitution in time.
Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the HLPM is to pave the way for rationally completing the peace processes and writing a new constitution resolving the current political deadlock. He has also said that there is no need for including the Prime Minister in the HLP, as the political deadlock is due to the current government.
Former Prime Minister and senior leader of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the HLMP needs to include representatives of 24 parties represented in the Constituent Assembly.
Senior leader of CPN-UML K.P Oli has said that the HLPM formed by the top leaders of the three political parties has no constitutional mandate. He has also said that those top leaders have ignored other political parties while setting up the mechanism.
Heads of the European Union, Switzerland and Norway have welcomed the formation of the HLPM saying it will pave the way for resolving the current political deadlock for completing the peace process and writing a new constitution.
Concerning the inclusion of other members in the HLPM, only the four main political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and the Madheshi political parties have the people’s mandate to resolve the political problems of the country whereas other political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly are there only by some freak not by the people’s mandate.
