Debate Over Buying Planes For Nepal Airlines

December 1, 2009: Members of the Public Account Committee (PAC) of the Legislature have said that they are not for stopping the Nepal Airlines from buying two planes from the French Airbus Company, they are simply want to make sure that everything is done following the rules and regulations. They have also said that some of the airlines people have complained against buying the wide body airbuses.

The Executive Chairman of Nepal Airlines Corporation has deiced to buy two wide body airbus with the consent of the Prime Minister and the Minister for Tourism and has sent more than a half million dollars as an advance to the Airbus Company. However, the Managing Director has been against buying such wide body airbus.

The Executive Chairman has said that he has answered all ten questions asked by the PAC members, and they need not bother the Airlines in the case of buying planes any more, as the Nepal Airlines Corporation will go bankrupt if two such plans could not be bought.

The Nepal Airlines Corporation is borrowing Rs 10 billion from the State Employees’ Provident Fund against the guarantee of the Government of Nepal for buying two planes.
