Shame on Former Nepalese Royals

Issue 43, October 26, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

October 24, 2008: The State-owned utility company called Nepal Electricity Authority says that former Nepalese royals have unpaid electricity bills for one million dollars; they have not paid electricity bills for several years; they have to clear the dues within 15 days otherwise the connection would be snapped. Former king Gyanendra and his relatives have not paid the electricity bills since he took power in 2005 the State-run company says. The company has repeatedly requested the former royals to clear the electricity bills but none of them paid attention to it.

The State Company says that it has written former princesses Shova, Dilasa, Sitashma, Helen, Bharati, Pooja, Jyotsana Devi Basnet, and so on to pay the electricity bills.

This time, the State Company is serious about taking actions and has instructed its various distributions centers to snap the connections if they do not pay the bills within the deadline.
