Congratulations From Indian and Chinese Prime Ministers

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took only few hours to make a direct call to newly elected Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on congratulating him indicating the political chemistry between the two people. Mr. Singh has also gave an invitation to Dr. Bhattarai to visit India at the latter’s convenience.

However, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao took almost a full day to congratulate Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on taking office of prime minister. in the congratulatory message, Mr. Wen has said that Bilateral relations have witnessed healthy development since the two countries established formal ties more than half a century ago, serving as an excellent example of how two countries of different size could treat each other as equals, coexist peacefully and carry out mutually beneficial cooperation, the news posted on the News.xinhuanet.com.

Mr. Wen also has said that the two sides would work together to further deepen friendship and cooperation between China and Nepal, and to push forward the long-term and steady development of their comprehensive cooperative partnership.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland congratulated Mr. Bhattarai on his election and said the U.S. looks forward to continuing the “warm and constructive” relationship it has with Nepal according to the VOA news. Nuland has said that the United States is hopeful Mr. Bhattarai's election will give renewed momentum both to the peace process and to the drafting of Nepal's constitution.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed Mr. Bhattarai's election and hoped to see the early establishment of an inclusive government through consensus and compromise. Mr. Ban reaffirmed the continued support of the U.N.
