Melamch Water Project Not Meeting Demand For Water
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 13, 2013: even the water from Melamchi River reaches Kathmandu in 2016, it would not meet the requirements of water, as the demand has increased to more than the capacity of the Melamchi Project, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.
In 1990, Interim Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai boasted about washing the streets of Kathmandu by the water from the Melamchi River. The poor Bhattarai did not live even to see the water coming from the Melamchi River to Kathmandu.
After the elections Prime Minister Bhattarai held, the NC won the majority seats in the parliament but Prime Minister Bhattarai lost the elections, and became an unemployed politician.
Girija Prasad Koirala took over the office of prime minister, and immediately behaved as the elected Jung Bahadur. He did not listen to anybody even the Supreme Leader of the People’s Movement of 1990 Ganesh Man Singh but he listened to anybody bringing money not even under the table but over the table.
Consequently, almost all the development projects including the Melamchi Water Project suffered during the fifteen-year rein of Girija Koirala, as these projects did not bring money to the Koirala family of politicians. Prime Minister Girija Koirala managed to sell almost everything saleable belonging to the state including the brand new two-Boeing planes to amass assets.
