December 31, 2013: Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has imposed the penalty of Rs 5,000 (about $ 50) on each of the 35,000 employees that failed in their property details within 60 days of joining the service and within 60 days of the expiry of the fiscal year annually following the laws. However, 35,000 State employees have ignored the provision made in the laws, according to the Xinhua news.

"We have decided to penalize the officials for their negligence to furnish their property details," Shreedhar Sapkota, spokesperson for the CIAA told Xinhua on phone. He said the penalized officials range from lower level to first class gazette officers including two ambassadors.

"I have asked the secretaries of all ministries to collect the penalty amount from the staffs under their agency within 30 days from now," spokesperson Sapkota said adding, the CIAA has also directed the ministries to get the details of property within the same period.

"Those government staffs still giving cold shoulder will be brought under the CIAA's scanner and their property will be thoroughly inspected," an official at the CIAA told Xinhua preferring anonymity.
