Issue 49, December 8, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 5, 2013: a task force set up by the UCPN-Maoist to investigate the irregularities in the elections to a CA held on November 19, 2013 has made its report public at the news conference held at the Parisdanda headquarters of the party yesterday, and has cited evidences of irregularities in the elections, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

According to the report, the task force found that two dozens of ballot boxes with ballots with the signature of the election officer but the votes were not for any political party, votes for direct and indirect candidates burnt in a forest, and jute bags stuffed with ballot papers and boxes.

Coordinator of the task force Burshman Pun said, “the elections have been held peacefully but the serious problem of transporting ballot boxes has been seen.”

Pun has indicated that issuing the 10-point internal instructions, the Election Commission has made the systematic irregularities in the elections; the EC accepted votes with the signatures of the election officers done in different inks even though signatures should be in black inks; the EC also accepted the ballot boxes with broken seals, and broken ballot boxes, signatures of election officers were stamped rather than handwritten, ballot boxes were stored at the army barracks without giving the agents of candidates an access to the ballot boxes for security; all these are the evidences of irregularities in the elections.
