Issue 44, November 3, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 27, 2013: the Election Commission (EC) has set up a team to monitor the enforcement of the election codes of conduct, as the EC has found the serious breach of the election codes of conduct by the candidates across the country, said a official at the EC today, according to the Xinhua news.

Only 23 days are to go before the elections; the EC set up an eight-member team to monitor the violation of the election codes of conduct. Chief Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Uprety presides over the team.

Following the election codes of conduct, candidates cannot use wall painting, banners, face painting, and placing billboards for the election campaigns. They can use only two light vehicles for the election campaign with the permission of the EC office.

Any party or candidate violating the election codes of conduct could be fined 100,000 rupees (US $1000) pursuant to the section 29 of the EC Act. As parties are intensifying the election campaign, widespread reports on the violation of the election codes of conduct are coming in.
